The International Reproduction Policy Database (IRPD) is a subproject of the research group „Varieties of Reproduction Regimes“ at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. The IRPD provides a comprehensive, quantitative dataset on reproduction policies across five key regulatory fields: sex education, contraception, abortion, assisted reproductive technologies, and pregnancy care.
The IRPD dataset has been published in February 2025 and includes detailed policy indicators for 32 high- and middle-income countries in Europe and other regions of the so-called Global North, covering the period 1980 to 2020. This novel resource enables researchers to analyze national-level regulations on reproduction policy over time, facilitating cross-country comparisons and interdisciplinary research of an ever-topical domain of state regulation with renewed political relevance in recent decades.
